Hardware Engineering Intern – Analog/Digital (EE)
You will be given an intern project and assigned to an experienced mentor who will guide you through your project
during your internship. As an intern you will enjoy the unique opportunity to be exposed to many aspects of the
product development cycle in the industry that includes design, prototyping, development, testing, sustaining, and
manufacturing production.
For digital hardware design interest:
Fundamental knowledge of electronic circuitsespecially indigital logics and embedded system.
Passionate in R&D work such as circuit design, simulation, debugging and hands-on measurement
For analog hardware design interest:
Fundamental knowledge of operational amplifiers, filters and transistors. Knowledge of ADC/DACs is an
added bonus
Enthusiasm for analog circuit, power supply and control systems design and troubleshooting
Software Engineering Intern (EE)
As an intern, you will get the unique opportunity to be exposed to many aspects of software development life cycle
and you will be assigned a mentor to guide you through your project. Software project development opportunities
include embedded systems, device drivers, programming for hardware (I/O, bus, network interface, etc.) or
development tools. Besides growing programming and technical skills, throughout the internship you will also gain
exposure to various industry standard practices such as debugging tools, source control (Git), professional code
development practices, development process (Agile), interacting with internal user/clients and more.
Position requirements:
Strong high-level programming skills (C/C++)
Understanding of the following concepts and principles:
- Programming for embedded systems or interfacing with hardware / devices
- Computer system architecture
- Object Oriented Programming
Mechanical Engineering Intern (Mechanical)
As a mechanical engineer intern at NI, you will have the chance to apply your academic knowledge and skills to realworld problems and solutions. You will be assigned an insightful mentor, who will guide you through your project
and work term for a successful internship experience. You will enjoy the unique opportunity to be exposed to various
aspects of mechanical design in the product development cycle, including research, analysis, design, prototyping,
testing, etc.
Position requirements include:
Strong understanding of fundamental design principles and processes
Proficient in using 3D CAD tools, such as PTC CREO, SolidWorks, etc.
Knowledgeable of metal/plastic materials and processing techniques
Familiar with electronic equipment assemblies
Basic knowledge of thermal design/heat transfer is an advantage
Test Development Intern (EE)
As a R&D test intern, you will have the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of production test solution design.
R&D Test Engineers at NI played an integral role in ensuring NI business operation success in a high mix, low
volume, high tech and high-quality manufacturing environment. Test developer’s main task is to develop and
implement automated test platforms, integrating both test hardware and test software as a total solution. You will
be assigned a dedicated mentor, who will guide you through your project and work term for a successful project
experience.
Expected to have interest in following concepts and principles:
Sources of measurement error
Test instrumentation selection
Hardware test fixture/solution design
Test software design and architecture
Integration of hardware and software
Statistical analysis of data
RF Engineering Intern (EE)
You will be assigned to a dedicated mentor, who will guide you throughout your project and work term for a
successful project completion. As an Intern, you will enjoy the unique opportunity to be exposed to many aspects of
sustaining (design improvement), Verification & Validation (V&V), test automation and Design for Manufacturing
(DFM) related projects.
Work on sustaining projects such as End of Life (EOL) components that requires circuit board re-design, cost
saving or continuous improvement projects, analyse and resolve design failures observed in RF manufacturing
and customer issues with robust solution
- Solution may range from test methodology, hardware and components design improvement
Exposure to cutting edge technologies such as 5G and Software Defined Radios (SDR)
Training and hands-on using creative design tools such as AWR, LT SPICE, LabVIEW etc.
Collaborate with engineers across the globe (NI Austin, NI Dresden etc.)
Engineering Support Assistant Intern
An ESA is a member of a product development team who supports the engineering team to successfully release a
product. ESA works across various departments in R&D engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and planning.
Responsibilities of ESA include solving logistical challenges and handling administrative tasks from the initial
prototyping stage all the way to volume production of new designs, as well as handling periodic sustaining work of
released products.
Procure parts to support design activities needed by the engineering team
Identify and solve part procurement needs and issues. Track part availability and maintain communication with
procurement teams to ensure there is no sourcing problem
Coordinate with manufacturing and planning departments to ensure success of prototype and manufacturing
jobs
Create new part numbers and symbols for use in designs
Maintain the Bill of Materials (BoM) of products in Agile product lifecycle management system
Follow up and track the progress of all assigned tasks thoroughly, as well as provide updates to project team
